Seattle X-max/New Year pictures

March 5th, 2010 Ron J. 1 comment

Yeah…I know I’m late posting these up. I finally got around to post processing them in my current unemployed state. Surprisingly enough I didn’t take very many pictures of the holidays. Hmmm. Oh well, I’m just going to post up a select few pictures from my holiday visit up in Seattle. If you want to see the rest, head over to my Smugmug. Enjoy! :)

NO POST processing. NO use of Photoshop. However the camera processes the photo (in hardware) when I take it is how you’ll see it. :)

Project 365: February 2010

March 1st, 2010 Ron J. No comments

Two months down! I think posting just 1 picture a day is kind of limiting, so I’m going to change up how I’m going to post up photographs for the rest of the year. At the end of each month now I’m going to just post a collection of pictures I took that month. There are some days I took more than one photo that I was really happy with so it was a shame when I had to limit myself to just choosing one for the day. So from here on out this is how I’m going to be approaching my Project 365. Same amount of photographs, just new rules. Please click the links below though to check out slideshows for the first two months of Project 365! Thanks for viewing. :)

Project 365 update + Photo portfolio binder

February 28th, 2010 Ron J. No comments

Finished shooting my last “picture a day” for February! Will post up the 28 pictures as soon as possible, which shouldn’t take long seeing as I’m unemployed once again. lol :( This makes 59 straight days of taking at least 1 picture a day! To be honest my motivation to keep doing it is waning so I’m not sure if I’ll be continuing this project. We’ll see though how I feel tomorrow…

On another photography related note, I started up a photo binder as my physical portfolio. Unfortunately I had to purchase a new printer as my old one crapped out after I had just bought a new photo cartridge for it! There’s $40 I’ll never see again. FAIL! On a much higher note though I saved a crap load of money on printer cartridges for my new printer since I’m a Staples premiere member. Working in production all these years I decided to sign up for a card some time ago since I was always buying office supplies from Staples. Little did I know all those purchases on production’s dime, but on my Staples card, would come back and pay me off now! Today, I loaded up on printer cartridges and photo paper for free w/ a few premiere member gift certificates I’ve been receiving in the mail these past couple of months. Also, the binder I’m using I got for free from a movie I worked on 2 years ago. It was going to be thrown out, but I decided at the time that I’d keep it because it might be useful for something someday. So free printer cartridges, photo paper, and a free binder from way back when?! WIN!!! lol Can’t wait to fill this thing with photographs I’ve taken! :) Will post more on this later…

Project 365 + Nikon D700

Been afforded the opportunity to use a Nikon D700 for the month of February for my Project 365 thanks to my good friend Ritchie. Needless to say, I’m falling in love with this camera. Seriously, it is that good.

Expect this month’s pictures in a little over a week! Yes, February is almost over! :)

(500) Days of Erwin

February 8th, 2010 Ron J. No comments

Most of you might’ve already seen these pictures, but I figure it’s worth posting on zee blog. My brother EJ took a short weekend trip down to LA courtesy of his loving wife. :) On his last day in LA he wanted to visit some spots from the indie movie hit from 2009 (500) Days of Summer and recreate some of the scenes. Needless to say it was a good way to kill 3 hours before he had to fly back to Seattle. Btw, it’s a great movie, and if you haven’t seen it you should definitely go check it out! Also included are some other random shots form his trip.

Project 365: January 2010

One month down! To be honest it was pretty difficult to stay motivated to get in at least one picture a day. Most days after work I just wanted to go back to my apartment and fall asleep. Luckily though I persevered, and with a little inspiration, made it through January without missing one day. Please click the link below to check out a slideshow of the first month of Project 365! Thanks for viewing. :)

Portraits from this past weekend

January 25th, 2010 Ron J. No comments

On Saturday I met up with Tanja, an old friend from high school. It was great seeing her again since it’s been 5 years since we last sat down and chatted it up when I first moved down to LA. After catching up over coffee, we headed over to an antique bookshop, where she asked if I would take some photographs of her for her own blog. Of course, having my camera on me, I was happy to oblige. Photogenic would be an understatement.

Projects: Project 365

In an attempt to try and improve my photography skills, and get my creative juices flowing, I’ve decided to undertake the task of shooting 1 picture a day for a whole year (one of my New Year’s resolutions). I honestly don’t know how long I’ll be able to keep this up, but I’m going to try. My work hours (as well as the weather as of late) have made it pretty difficult to find the time to get in a good shot, but I’ve managed to at least snap something before the night’s end. 22 days into 2010 and I have 22 photographs. I’m still on the fence about the picture set as a whole. Some are good, some are bad. Of course, this is just my overcritical opinion of my own shots like always. I’ll let you guys be the judge of them when all is said and done. I’ll be posting a picture set for each month at the beginning of the following month. For now though, here is one pic snapped this past month as a teaser. :) (click image for higher res version)

Santa Monica Pier @ night

January 16th, 2010 Ron J. 1 comment

To continue my quest to just shoot more in 2010, tonight I decided to spend 2 hours roaming around Santa Monica Pier. Didn’t really come away with very many pictures, but I’ve always wanted to shoot the ferris wheel in motion at night.

I swear, I felt like a dork walking around by myself taking pictures. haha Next time someone please come along with me. :/

Life is short

I was digging through some old emails and came across this one that’s been sitting in my inbox for a while. I really enjoy looking at wedding photos as it captures a moment in time that bears so much meaning for the two people involved. The pictures that were included in this email though capture so much more than just a wedding, which is why it’s not hard to fall in love with them. Happiness and sadness captured through a lens.  Below are the pictures along with the story behind them.
